"Welcome to Long Crendon Bowls Club"
Long Crendon Bowls Club is affiliated to the Buckinghamshire Bowls Association (BBA) and Bowls England (BE). Our Green is located between the Recreation Ground and the Baptist Church in Long Crendon and can be accessed from either the Chearsley Road or the High Street.
Our Club was founded in 1921 and our facilities include a Clubhouse with a Ladies Changing Room, a licensed bar and catering facilities. We have recently achieved a 5-Star Rating (Very Good) by The Food Standards Agency, for the hygiene standards in our kitchen.
A separate Men's Changing Pavilion is situated at the opposite end of the Green by the tennis courts.
We celebrated our Centenary in 2021 and were pleased to announce that the whole of the interior of the Clubhouse had been refurbished, thanks to a grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
This has provided a real boost to the club and will also benefit local community groups in the Long Crendon area who may need to hire a large function room.
The interior improvements now enable us to play Short Mat Indoor Bowls and our first two winter seasons have been highly successful. We finished 2nd in our first season playing in the Bucks Single Mat League.
Other improvements include a much needed new fence between the Green and the adjoining recreation ground and removal of the hedge along the same side of the Green, allowing us to now have spectator seating on all 4 sides.
Our Green is highly regarded and is Starred by the County each year, allowing us to host County matches. We have six rinks, which can be stretched to seven when occasion demands.
The outdoor season runs from the end of April until the end of September. We have friendly matches against other Clubs most Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season. We also have fun ‘Roll-ups’ on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and some social evenings on Friday's. Club competitions are held during the season, culminating with a Finals Day in August. In addition we enter County League and Cup competitions, which run throughout the summer season.
Our Membership year starts at the end of March and covers all skill levels, ranging from beginners to more experienced players. We are always pleased to welcome new Members to the Club at any time of the year, at whatever level you play.
Members often come and watch matches in the summer, sitting round the Green at one of several seating areas, whilst enjoying something from the bar on warmer days.
If you are passing and can see activity on the Green, why not pop in and find out more or if you are interested in learning more about the Club, please e-mail us from our Contact Us page. Alternately you can call Alan Quinnell on 07729 950745 for more information.
